Q: Can I set a dead band with the FDP3 such that below 19 DegC the indoor units heat, at temperatures higher than 19 DegC and below 23 DegC only fans run and at temperature higher than 23 DegC the units run in cooling?
A1 (FDP3-BMS, FDP3-Modbus): This can be achieved by implementing the deadband externally, i.e. on your BMS. The BMS would then use an external system which controls the FDP3 interface via Modbus (hardwired control is possible too in case of FDP3-BMS) protocol.
A2 (FDP3-BMS only): The FDP3-BMs can be configured to Preset Operation Mode - Locked Auto Preset. The Preset Setpoint (which is fixed) can only be changed with Modbus:
- Set the FDP3-BMS to FDP3 BMS Standard Mode using the DIP switches as described in the FDP3-BMS installation instructions.
- Change the Auto Preset Setpoint (default: 21 DegC) by writing the new Setpoint to Modbus Holding Register 11210
- Use this Modbus Holding Register only for configuration and when really necessary. Too many changes may reduce life cycle of the FDP3 interface.
- Set the FDP3-BMS to Locked Auto Preset Operating Mode using the DIP switches as described in the FDP3-BMS installation instructions.
In addition to changing the Auto Preset Setpoint the indoor unit's deadband needs to be changed (please contact Toshiba Technical Support for details on changing the deadband).
Note that in Preset Operation mode Modbus cannot be used for control/monitoring.
Setpoint Temperature Range
Q: Can I change or extend the setpoint temperature range?
A: No, this is not possible.
FDP3-BMS: Change the FIXED setpoint in Preset Operating modes
Q: Can I change the FIXED setpoint in Preset Operating modes?
A: The fixed setpoint can be changed as follows:
- Set the FDP3-BMS to FDP3 BMS Standard Mode using the DIP switches as described in the FDP3-BMS installation instructions.
- Change the required Preset Setpoint as follows:
- Locked Cooling Preset: Write to Modbus Holding register H11208 the new Cooling Preset setpoint temperature.
-
Locked Heating Preset: Write to Modbus Holding register H11209 the new Heating Preset setpoint temperature.
- Locked Auto Preset: Write to Modbus Holding register H11210 the new Auto Preset setpoint temperature.
- Set the FDP3-BMS to the required Locked Cooling/Heating/Auto Preset Operating Mode using the DIP switches as described in the FDP3-BMS installation instructions.
Use the above Modbus Holding Register only for configuration and when really necessary. Too many changes may reduce life cycle of the FDP3 interface.
Overriding the Toshiba Remote Sensor
Q: We are installing a Toshiba Remote Sensor (TCB-TC21LE2) to the indoor unit which will override the return air sensor. Is there a Modbus register for the remote sensor once connected?
A: If the remote temperature sensor TCB-TC21LE2 FULLY overrides the remote controller sensor then the same input register may be used. Please contact Toshiba Technical Services for further information.
For comparison you can install our software ModTool and use it to view all relevant Modbus registers (see this article to download ModTool: ModTool Communication with our Products).
Using Toshiba Programmers
Q: Can I connect a wired remote controller and Toshiba programmers to the TCC network?
A: The FDP3 interface and one remote controller can be wired to the same indoor unit (the FDP3 acts as a second remote controller). However, the programmer will probably interfere with the functionality of the system. Toshiba or their distributors will know better about the functionality and limitations of their devices and systems, so we recommend contacting their technical support.
FDP3-BMS: Using thermostats with Voltage outputs
Q: Can we use thermostat that use up to 24 V for control of the setpoint with FDP3-BMS input S1?
A: No. The FDP3-BMS interface voltage values to control the Indoor units' parameters cannot be changed and are listed in the installation instructions of the FDP3-BMS.
FDP3-BMS in Duty/Standby operation
Q: Can I monitor the units with Modbus?
A: The FDP3-BMs interface with address '0' acts as a Modbus master. Therefore, if you want to monitor the FDP3's registers in this operation mode you will need a Modbus gateway.
Q: Can I change the indoor unit parameters with the wired remote controller?
A: DIP switches 2 and 3 must be set to Unlocked Operation (both Off). Note that the parameters can only be changed with the remote controller when the Master is in Duty state.
Modbus Adapters and Communication
Q: Do you have a more integrated Modbus-to-IP adapter, so that I wouldn’t need an extra piece of hardware for every adapter?
A: No.
Q: Do you have any recommendations for specific Modbus-to-IP adapters?
A: No.
Q: How long does it take for the FDP3 interface to relay a signal to the Toshiba unit?
A: The FDP3 relays all commands immediately.
