To which P1P2 mode does the RTD have to be configured?
RTD interfaces act as wired remote controllers. Dependent on the RTD interface model and its operation mode configuring it as MAIN (Master) or SUB (Slave) P1P2 device may be required. An infrared remote controller may need to be configured to operate in SUB mode. Please see the installation instructions of the respective RTD for details on the required P1P2 mode.
What does the P1P2 mode affect?
The P1P2 SUB/MAIN mode does not affect Modbus. However, some RTD operation modes or data do require as specific P1P2 mode, e.g:
- Coil In/Out temperatures are only available when the RTD is in P1P2 main mode (see the installation instructions of the respective RTD for details on the required P1P2 mode).
- Indoor unit's Auto-Restart functionality in case of RTD-10 or in case of RTD-NET.
The remote controller may show a reduce list of setting options when configured as SUB P1P2 device.
The P1P2 configuration is done on the remote controller
If no wired remote controller is used then the RTD is by default the MAIN P1P2 device.
If a wired remote controller is used then the remote controller's P1P2 configuration defines the RTD interface's P1P2 configuration. The P1P2 configuration cannot be set on RTD. Thus, if the P1P2 configuration of the wired remote controller is changed the RTD restarts and configures its P1P2 mode automatically.
How to configure the remote controller's P1P2 mode
Dependent on which Remote Controller you are using the method to set the MAIN/SUB mode of the remote controller is different.
Older versions (don't have backlight - like the BRC1D) have a M/S switch on the rear of the PCB.
Newer version (with backlight display - like the BRC1E) require you to press the settings button on the lower right hand side for a few seconds and enter the “Switch Main Sub Controller” menu. There, select SUB or MAIN mode, as required, and click enter. Unplug and replug the RemCon (BRC is powered by P1P2 connection from unit).
Once repowered the RTD will restart too and configure its P1P2 mode automatically.
How to tell if the BRC is the MAIN P1P2 device?
For details on remote controller's configuration please see the indoor unit's or remote controller's installation instructions or contact Daikin technical support.
The following methods may be of help - remote controller variants may behave differently:
* While the BRC restarts the screen should show on the lower side “Sub RC” or Main RC.
* Enter the the remote controller's settings menu. If the settings menu only has four items then it is set as SUB remote controller. If the BRC is the MAIN P1P2 controller then it has many more items and allows you to alter the field settings.
